Carey was almost 5'10 tall when she became a high-end model. She was a popular model among American designer Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was high. Her father, an accomplished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is a highly respected geoscientist. As a result of his career Carey was raised all over the globe. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to do modeling as a side. The idea caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris prior to returning to New York. Her modeling and college career took off and she appeared on Glamour's, Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. Between modeling gigs, she was a full time student who was pursuing a degree in literary studies at New York University. In New York she began to pursue acting. In 1986 she began her career as an actor with a small role in "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. Her hobbies include doing white-water rafting, skiing, wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
